[Seriously though can we please stop calling cars “new” when they are clearly just facelifted?]

*Freaks out about “new” MKZ*
“Can we stop calling facelifted cars new?”

But it would still be new. Not all new, but new nonetheless.

That last post was tagged with “sarcasm” because there had been two other recent posts about the car.

If your wife got botox would you call her a new person?

Haha, yep. Definitely just facelift (literally only A-pillar forward)
Signed,
Guy who wrote the complaining post.

Crap.
I generally don’t bother to look at tags because most of Oppo doesn’t use them. You got me.
Agreed that calling a facelift “all-new” is stupid. FP did the same for the updated Escape.

Manufacturers themselves do it.

Well yes, but that’s how marketing departments/companies work. I’m sure the engineers who did the update are just as annoyed with “all-new” facelifts as you are.

Humans =/= cars

I dunno, I’ve seen the way some of you guys talk about your cars.

You do know. Some people talk about their cars like they are people, but that doesn’t matter. Regardless of how some feel or speak about it, they still will not be. They are only machines.
The problem with the botox example are many;
Your wife is a human being, not an object.
A car is not a person
A botox shot isn’t really analogous to a ‘facelift’ on a car; botox modifies already existing material while adding very little. To facelift a car, you have to design and create a new face using new parts and materials. I don’t think even extensive plastic surgery is close to what has to happen to change the face of a car.
If a facelifted car cannot be called ‘new’, then how can any car on a lot full of ‘new’ cars be called ‘new’? That same car will be mass produced thousands of times in a single year and the changes between any of them will be even more trivial than a facelift.

It's a little more than just a face lift.
